The four things to check

01

Substrate

A flat, dry wall takes bonded installation. Beyond 5 mm out of plumb, go through a batten frame.

02

Format

Large-format SPC keeps visible joints to a minimum. Narrow boards give rhythm but multiply the junctions.

03

Wet rooms

SPC goes in bathrooms and kitchens. So does decorative PVC, outside the direct shower spray zone.

04

Light

Relief profiles only reveal themselves under grazing light. Plan an LED strip at the top of the wall.

Until recently, redoing a living-room wall in Morocco meant skim coat, sanding, two coats of paint and a week on site. SPC wall panels and decorative PVC boards have changed that equation. You fix onto the existing surface, with MS polymer adhesive or onto a batten frame, and the wall is finished that same evening.

SPC or PVC: two materials, two uses

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) is loaded with mineral powder. Rigid, heavy and dense, it comes in large 2900 × 1220 mm panels with a striking marble look — continuous veining, smooth surface, controlled sheen. It is the material for reception walls, headboards, hotel front-desk surrounds and bathrooms.

Decorative PVC works on relief instead. Slats (Slat Board), grooved boards (Grid Board), concave or rounded profiles: the material is light, cuts with a fine-tooth saw and installs without machinery. It is the choice for rhythm and cast shadow — what gives texture to a wall that reads too flat.

Where to use them

In a living room, a run of slats behind the sofa gives the room structure without weighing it down. In a bedroom, a marbled SPC panel behind the bed beats wallpaper. In bathrooms and kitchens, SPC is waterproof: it takes splashes with no tile grout to maintain. In commercial receptions — hotel, clinic, agency — the two families combine: SPC marble behind the counter, slats on the flanking walls.

Acoustics: what slats actually change

A slatted wall fixed onto a frame creates an air gap and an irregular surface: it breaks up reverberation and softens the acoustics of a bare room. The effect is real but moderate — this is not professional acoustic treatment. For a home cinema or a meeting room, back the slats with absorbent felt.

Frequently asked questions

What we get asked most often

Can a wall panel be fixed over existing tiles?
Yes. It is in fact a common renovation case: an SPC panel bonds directly onto clean, degreased, well-adhered tiling, with no removal. Just check that no tile sounds hollow.
Do wall panels yellow over time?
DECNO finishes are UV-treated and intended for interior use, where exposure stays limited. On a wall that takes direct sun for several hours a day, favour mid to dark shades, which are visually less sensitive to any shift in tone.
How do you clean an SPC panel wall?
A lightly damp microfibre cloth is enough. The surface is closed: it absorbs neither fingerprints nor cooking splashes. Avoid abrasive powders and solvents, which dull the finish.
How long does it take to dress a 15 m² wall?
Allow one day with two people for a 15 m² wall in large-format SPC, including substrate preparation. A slatted wall on a frame takes half a day more to fix the battens.
