What a wall covering costs in Morocco: SPC panels, slats and the alternatives
What does a dressed wall cost in Morocco? Budget structure for SPC panels and slats, comparison with paint and tiling, and a worked example for a 15 m² wall.
Unlike a deck, an interior wall covering is a line where quotes are rarely comparable — because the products themselves are not. One wall can be dressed for three times less than another, and both can be good decisions depending on the context.
This article gives you the structure of the budget and the method of calculation, so that you can read a quote properly.
The ranges mentioned are orders of magnitude on the Moroccan market; only a take-off on your dimensions gives an exact figure.
The three lines of a dressed wall
| Line | Share of budget | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Panels or boards | 60 – 70 % | Varies widely with the finish |
| Installation | 20 – 30 % | Higher if a frame is needed |
| Adhesive, profiles, trims | 8 – 12 % | Often left out of quotes |
The third line is the one that turns up “as an extra” after the signature: MS polymer adhesive, aluminium joining profiles, sanitary sealant in a wet room, finishing skirtings. Insist that it appears in the original quote.
What moves the price of the panels
The finish
This is the first factor, by some distance. A matt plain — white, taupe grey, off-white — is markedly more affordable than a high-definition marbled veining such as Calacatta Gold or black marble with coppery veins. The difference lies in the decor film and the quality of the printing.
The practical consequence: on a project with several walls, make one accent wall in marble and the adjacent walls plain, from the same colour family. The result is more elegant than marble everywhere, and the budget drops noticeably.
The format
The large format, 2900 × 1220 mm, costs more per unit but covers 3.5 m² in one piece, with no horizontal joint. On a standard wall, it generates fewer offcuts and less installation time than a smaller format.
Thickness and density
An 8 mm SPC filled with mineral powder has nothing in common with a hollow PVC panel of the same apparent thickness. The second is markedly cheaper — and it dents under a point load, ripples with heat and distorts over tall runs.
As with outdoor composite, ask for the weight per m². It is the most honest indicator.
Worked example: a 15 m² wall
Take a living-room wall 5 m wide by 2.90 m high, with a door of 0.90 × 2.10 m.
In large-format SPC panels
- Gross area: 5 × 2.90 = 14.5 m²
- Area of the door: 0.90 × 2.10 = 1.9 m² — but do not deduct it, because the cut-outs cannot be reused
- Panels 1.22 m wide: 5 ÷ 1.22 = 5 panels (the last one trimmed)
- Cutting margin around the door: 1 extra panel
- Total: 6 panels
Add: MS polymer adhesive (roughly one cartridge per 2 m²), so 8 cartridges, plus the vertical joining profiles and the finishing skirting.
In Slat Board slats
- Effective board width: 159 mm
- Width to cover: 5 m ÷ 0.159 = 32 boards
- Edge margin and cut-outs: 34 boards
- A frame if the wall is not flat: horizontal battens every 50 cm, so 6 runs of 5 m
That is the calculation we do for you from your dimensions. It takes five minutes and it avoids the top-up order.
Comparison with the alternatives
| Paint | Wallpaper | Tiling | SPC panel | Slats | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Material cost | Very low | Low to medium | Medium | Medium to high | Medium |
| Installation cost | Low | Medium | High | Medium | Medium |
| Time (15 m²) | 2 – 3 d | 1 – 2 d | 3 – 5 d | 1 d | 1 d |
| Removing what is there | Sometimes | Often | Often | Rarely | Rarely |
| Rubble | Little | Little | Considerable | Almost none | Almost none |
| Wet room | Limited | No | Yes | Yes | Outside the shower |
| Service life | 5 – 8 years | 5 – 10 years | 20 years + | 15 years + | 15 years + |
The line that changes everything in renovation
Look at the “removing what is there” row. Re-tiling a tiled wall means breaking out, clearing rubble and making good the substrate — three lines that do not appear in the price per m² of the tile, and that weigh heavily.
An SPC panel goes straight onto the existing tiles. That is very often what makes the operation cheaper overall, despite a higher material price.
The most common budgeting mistakes
Deducting openings from the area. The cut-outs around a door or a window cannot be reused elsewhere. Count the gross area.
Forgetting the adhesive and the profiles. On a 15 m² wall, that line is not trivial.
Not budgeting for a frame. If your wall is more than 5 mm out under a 2 m straightedge, it will need a levelling frame. Have it checked before ordering.
Underestimating the lighting. A slat wall with no raking light does not read. The LED strip is part of the project, not an option.
Ordering to the nearest piece. Allow one spare board or panel: a botched cut at the end of the job stops everything, and the re-order costs mostly in lead time.
Getting an exact price
Send us the dimensions of the wall (width × height), the number and size of the openings, a photograph of the existing wall and the town of the project.
With that, you receive an itemised costing within 24 working hours: panels or boards, adhesive, profiles, trims, and the take-off line by line so that you can compare it against any other quote.
